Red Rocks Community College Presents “Redline” Art Exhibit

Resident and Resource artists showcase beautiful, playful and thoughtful work

LAKEWOOD, CO – Red Rocks Community College is currently hosting an exhibit of work by Redline a gallery space that hosts resident artists. “Redline – Resident and Resource showcases work that ranges from conceptual statements about social issues to work that reflected on domesticity, new interpretations of historical art and work that pushed into new ways of working with age old materials like drawing and photography.

Deborah Dell, curator of the Susan K. Arndt Gallery at Red Rocks Community College, spent the summer visiting studios of 13 resident artists and 2 resource artists. Resident artists are generally early career artists either recently graduated from undergraduate or graduate school. Resource artists are established artists in Denver who are mid-career. Resource artists are meant to mentor the resident artists.

Deborah visited each artist in their studio and looked at the breadth of their current work. She then began to choose work for the show. Deborah said the process was fascinating because most of the artists had great clarity about their work and where their ideas came from while a few of the artists were in transition trying new ideas and exploring new materials.

In the end, The show is beautiful, playful, thoughtful and challenging. It is a well-rounded view of work being done by young artists and well established artists in Denver. It is meant to be a snap shot of the larger Denver Art Community.

The exhibit is on display in the Susan K. Arndt Gallery at RRCC’s Lakewood campus (west entrance/lower level) now until October 18. Gallery hours are Monday – Friday 7 a.m.–10 p.m.; Saturday & Sunday 7 a.m.–6 p.m.
