Elena Barrera is a student at Front Range Community College (FRCC) completing an Associate of Science degree. She plans to transfer in the Fall of 2019 to Colorado University at Boulder where she will major in Environmental Engineering. She intends to obtain a Master’s in Environmental Engineering while raising her daughter, Sophia. Her goal is to construct sustainable solutions to environmental concerns, specifically in developing countries.
Elena serves as the State Student Advisory Council representative for FRCC’s Student Government at Boulder County Campus and is the Chair for the State Student Advisory Council under the Colorado Community College System. She has pursued her interest in political ecology and engineering by taking an active role in FRCC’s International Affairs and Engineering Club.
In addition to extra-curricular activities, Elena has a work-study position as Lead Student Technician in FRCC’s Information Technology Services department where she collaborates with other technicians on improving standards at the Boulder County campus.
