Envisioning the Future

Welcome!  On this page you will find information and documents relevant to the future of Colorado community colleges.  All information surrounding the ‘Envisioning the Future of Colorado Community Colleges’ will be posted as it becomes available.

Individuals from all 13 colleges, the State Board for Community Colleges and Occupational Education, and its staff are engaging in an innovative process known as ‘Scenario-based Planning’.  To facilitate this process, we have enlisted the aid of McREL, a company that has more than 40 years experience helping educators envision the future by taking research and applying it to the real world. Based right here in Aurora, McREL provides services to educators across the nation and around the world.

By working together as a whole, this process is geared to compliment the strategic planning already occurring at the individual colleges and enhance the capability of community colleges to make a positive impact on the future of Colorado.  The focal topic we will use throughout this process is –

What will be the demand for Colorado Community College services in 2020?

Our kickoff Envisioning Workshop including almost 200 participants occurred May 31, 2007 and laid the groundwork for our yearlong process to develop a vision for the future; creating a strategic plan that can be implemented, monitored over time, and adjusted as conditions change.

A smaller group of up to 30 individuals, representing the whole from the May 31 workshop, will continue to develop this plan starting with a three-day workshop June 4-6.  This group will identify the critical uncertainties that will form the framework for the future scenarios, write those scenarios, and make plans to prepare for those scenarios.

Working together, we can proactively prepare Colorado’s community colleges to spread the spirit of optimism, hope, and economic prosperity by providing students with opportunities for a lifetime – a good lifetime, a great lifetime.
