FRCC Dedicates New Health Education Facilities

New training facilities for emergency medical services, nursing, and pharmacy technology students were dedicated Nov. 17, at Front Range Community College’s Westminster Campus.

Companies and individuals who made donations to the projects also were honored.

EMS students now have an apartment environment on the Westminster Campus. Built through donations from Adolfson and Peterson Construction, Cornerstone Security Inc., and the FRCC Foundation, the apartment gives students opportunities to experience sometimes-dangerous situations in a controlled but realistic setting.

Nursing has a new simulation lab so students can interact with scenarios that enhance critical thinking and technical skills. Donations came from Adams County Commissioner Larry Pace (in memory of his late wife, Marietta, who was a nurse) and a $1,000 gift from Class of 2006 nursing graduates. Clinical agencies in the area provided surplus equipment.

Pharmacy Technology has a laboratory for students to do practical work in filling prescriptions. Adolfson and Peterson constructed the lab. Kmart and King Soopers pharmacies provided materials for the students to use.

“This is a great example of community involvement,” FRCC President Karen Reinertson said. “We appreciate the efforts of private industry, individuals, and alumni in making all three facilities possible. Our donors saw the value of our programs and provided the support we needed to keep instruction at its highest level.”

Westminster Campus Vice President Andy Dorsey said, “We deeply appreciate our donors’ generosity. Their donations will have a powerful effect on our students’ futures as health care workers.
