Jamie Cecil, a sophomore at Northeastern Junior College and a former Colorado FAA state officer, is representing Colorado at the 79th annual national FFA convention this week.
An estimated 55,000 FFA members are gathering in Indianapolis. Jamie will compete among 41 candidates from 41 other states for one of the six 2006-2007 national officer titles.
Raised in Cope, a small community in northern Colorado, Jamie has been very active in Colorado FFA.
“Each state only gets to send one candidate,” she explained, who sees the honor as another bit of “destiny” that has guided her FFA career. “I went to Washington, D.C. my junior year of high school and I met a girl from Montana who has become a great friend. We both ran for state office the same year and were selected. She ran for national office last year and this year I am going to get to run for national office. Many great relationships such as this are built through FFA. I’ve experienced so much personal growth through FFA and learned a great deal about myself and I have had so many great mentors who have positively impacted my life. I just want a chance to have this same kind of positive impact on other younger members across this country.”
Jamie is an ag communications major at NJC, although if she is elected to national office, she will take off a year from college to perform her extensive duties.
