| NJC student is one of 50 in nation to earn CHS Foundation Scholarship
Northeastern Junior College is pleased to announce that Eric Wellman of Hamilton, CO, an agricultural education major, received a scholarship through the CHS Foundation’s expanded two-year college scholarship program. More than 1,000 entries from 45 states were submitted and only 50 were awarded.
The CHS Foundation is the major giving entity of CHS Inc., a diversified energy, grains and foods company committed to providing products and services ranging from grain marketing to food processing.
The scholarships were awarded based on applicants' community involvement, extra curricular activities and two essays on the topics of maintaining strong rural communities and the importance of cooperatives to agriculture. Under the expanded two-year college scholarship program, awards were increased to $750 and are applied toward students’ second-year costs. Also new this year, CHS Foundation scholarship winners will have increased connections to valuable opportunities such as internships, professional or leadership development programs, career openings and international experiences.
The CHS Foundation has endowed assets of more than $25 million, with more than $1.7 million distributed annually through grants, scholarships, and educational support. Its program focuses include scholarships, rural youth leadership development, returning value to rural communities, cooperative education, farm and agricultural safety, and emergency assistance and disaster relief.
