LCC Baseballers Capture 7th Straight Empire Conference Title
The Lamar Community College Runnin’ Lopes Baseball Team swept a double header against Trinidad State Junior College, May 6, to capture their school record-setting seventh straight Empire Conference Title.
The Lopes finished 20-10 in league play and are 212-26 from their title runs in the past seven years. The 2007 squad is led by sophomore right-handed Willie Kesler (Northglenn HS, Thornton, CO) who finished the regular season 8-3 with a .90 ERA in 80 innings of work. Willie is currently third in the country in ERA on the NJCAA web site. At the plate, sophomore shortstop Austin Buck (Legacy HS, Broomfield, CO) led the team in hitting with a .340 batting average and 23 RBI’s.
The Lopes will host the Region IX Tournament on May 10-13 at Merchants’ Park.
